Self-Care is the practice of honoring yourself physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. It is an important practice for all – both young and old. Self-Care can enhance your mental health and self-esteem. Sometimes, we forget about self-care because we are busy with work and school or because we are occupied with putting the needs of others before our own. If you do not take care of yourself, how can you adequately take care of others?
Self-Care doesn’t have to cost money, is easy to implement, and means different things to different people.
Here are a few tips/self-care ideas to start you on your way!
1) Write a list of 5 things you are grateful for! Doing some inner self which can include self-reflection is a great way to take care of yourself mentally.
2) Get up and dance! Sure, you might not know the latest Tik Tok dances, and you might not exactly dance like Michael Jackson or Ciara, but dancing can be a lot of fun when you are alone. When it comes to moving your feet, the fact that you are moving is most important! Dancing helps to put you in a good mood and reduce anxiety.
3) Call or text a good friend! Good companies can give us a sense of belongingness, help us heal from trauma, and increase our self-esteem. Maybe they have some words of wisdom for you, or maybe they can share a good laugh with you!
4) Have a glass of cold water! You can add slices of lemon or cranberries to your water to give it a healthy and tasty kick. Drinking water helps to reduce the negative effects of stress on your mind and body.
